We want Vineyard Gate to be something that Colchester can be proud of and are keen for the people of Colchester to give their input.

Vineyard Gate Developments and Colchester Borough Council are both committed to keeping you informed about the progress of the scheme. In order to find out the views of local residents and businesses, we have begun a public consultation process about the scheme and are actively seeking your feedback about our initial proposals and the design competitions.

The public exhibition, which was held in early September, was an important element of the consultation process. We are delighted that almost 1,800 local residents and businesses visited the exhibition and gave us their feedback. Although the public exhibition has now closed, we continue to welcome your comments about our scheme.

A number of top design practices were invited to enter design competitions for three key parts of the new development – the exterior of the department store building, a new bridge over Southway and a new public space adjacent to the historic Town Wall. The preferred design concepts, which have now been selected, will be integrated into the overall design. All of the entries can be downloaded from the Design Competitions page of this website

The jury panel appointed to evaluate the competition entries was chaired by Peter Stewart, formerly Director of Design Review at the Commission for Architecture & the Built Environment (CABE). The panel took into consideration the comments made by members of the public at the exhibition when making its decision.
